On 05-07 September, within the scope of GIDROAVIASALON-2014, the X International Scientific Conference for Amphibious and Non-Aerodrome-Based Aircraft was held. The Conference included seven panels where reports were presented by different scientific and design organizations on the topics of creation, design, development, manufacture, certification, and operation of amphibious and non-aerodrome-based aircraft and equipment, materials, and technologies for such aircraft.
Six panels were held in Conference Halls of the Primorye Hotel; the seventh panel, traditionally dedicated to aviation materials and production processes, was held on the premises of the Akimov Gelendzhik Center for Climatic Tests (a branch of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM)). During the plenary session and panel sessions, 108 reports were heard. All the presented reports were published in the form of a Collection of Theses and a two-volume collection of reports. The reports reflect the modern trends for development of amphibious and non-aerodrome-based aircraft, first and foremost, of Russian manufacture. The Conference featured an abrupt growth in the number of reports on development and tests of wing-in-ground effect vehicles and on creation of non-aerodrome-based aircraft. The new growth of interest towards wing-in-ground effect vehicles and non-aerodrome-based aircraft is brought about by economic requirements and the demand, on the part of the country’s security agencies, of efficient high-speed transportation vehicles with minimum requirements to operation and maintenance infrastructure. The reports were accompanied by competent discussions and numerous questions and comments. The total number of participants of the conference exceeded 160 persons. The Russian participants represented approximately 40 companies and organizations engaged in design and manufacture of amphibious and non-aerodrome-based aircraft. Throughout the Round Table summarizing the conference’s results, the participants expressed their appreciation of the arrangement and content of the conference. The Draft Resolution of the conference, which is taken as the basic draft, states the conference’s success, outlines the ways to improve conference activities, and determines further directions for research and development. It is noted that the success of the conference was much contributed to by the active support on the part of Management of Beriev Aircraft Company, TsAGI FSUE, TsIAM FSUE, and VIAM FSUE.
The Gelendzhik Airport was also actively working. From 03 September (the date of arrival of participants and guests of the major air show in the south of Russia) through 07 September 2014, the Gelendzhik Airport serviced, in total, 160 turnaround flights; the number of passengers serviced during the four days of the exhibition totaled 8,435 persons.
